I am admittedly not too well versed in the South American Hardcore scene. I am very familiar with a lot of the anarcho and crust bands from there but this kind of hardcore hasn't really been something I've dived into at all. I started checking out some bands after I streamed the Tomar Control lp that came out last year (check it out, it's great!) and came across bands like En Mi Defensa, Vieja Escuela, Las Palabras Queman and Vos Me Fallaste. I imagine those bands are staples in their scene and very well known but they were brand new to me. They're from the straightedge side of the scene which isn't really a scene I'm familiar with, even out here. I've been straightedge for half my life but never really got into the bands. Shit, I've only been to like 3 straightedge shows in my life! Ask me to name an active sxe band from LA, I can't!

Vos Me Fallaste stood out to me the most because of their lyrics, they're very personal and the vocals are absolutely perfect for them. Frustrated and desperate at times. Musically I kind of hear something similar to Verse but I've never been good at comparisons. It's really disappointing that they only recorded 1 record but it's also kind of enough?

The band was from Argentina, active from 2008-2013 and then reformed for one more show in 2015.
This is a compilation of Korean hardcore released as a benefit for the GBN Live House and it fucking kicks ass! I highly recommend everyone go check it out and buy it! It's super cheap and is for a great cause, all of the money goes to GBN and they really need it as they have suffered some major flooding. This is also a great gateway to a bunch of Korean bands you otherwise would've never heard of! I am super excited to look deeper into Look and Listen!

Please check it out and support the venue and bands!
I'm also not sure how long they were active either but my best guess is 2004-2006. I just straight up don't know much about them other than the fact that they stuck out like a sore thumb at most of the shows they played. They were part of the DemonxChuff crew scene, so they'd always be playing with bands like ACxDC, Super Ninja Robot Fighter, Bastardass and AxRxM. I never got to see them play but would follow their myspace page and really dug their songs.

It took me forever to finally get my hands on the full demo. I ended up getting ahold of one of the band members after a few years of asking around and she was super nice and sent me the demo. By the time I got the demo, I had been seeking it out for around 9 years so getting to listen to it in its entirety was incredibly satisfying.

I heard through a friend that they had started getting together and practicing again not too long after they sent me the songs. I was tempted to reach out and ask if I could attend a practice but I didn't really know them personally so I thought that would've been a bit weird. They never ended up playing publicly again so I kind of regret not reaching out.

A big thank you to Celeste for sending me the recordings!

I remember the first time I saw Venganza play, the drummer, Juan, was wearing the oversized sombrero in the pic. Not just that, but these guys used to fill up the rim of the hat with chicharrones! The hat would get passed around and people would dig in and munch on them, or they'd end up on the floor because he'd still play with it on even if it was full.

Over the years their line up changed and I always liked to look at their line up changes as different phases of the band. The first line up lasted about a year. They put out a solid demo, nothing groundbreaking but it still ripped! Then came their second line up that brought in Gilbert on vocals and David from Mugre on bass. This was my favorite line up and this is the line up released a 7". I'm not sure how long Gilbert was in the band but it feels like it was around 2 years. There were talks about doing a few splits but I don't think they ever got around to recording anything after the 7". After some time, Gilbert and David both left the band and Oscar joined in on vocals. Oscar had previously played in Degrading Humanity, All Gone Dead and Send the Dogs and he's currently in Fissure. I wasn't really too big on this line up. A split lp with Raiser was released by this line up.

Band called it quits and Juan joined Generacion Suicida on bass for a bit. Half of Venganza formed another band called Coraje in 2016. They released a demo that someone felt had a bit too much reverb, played a few shows and then broke up by the end of 2017.

A few years ago I set up a show and convinced 3 of my favorite bands to get back together and play. La Voz was one of them. I hit up their singer Mario and he seemed hesitant about it. After some heavy pestering on my part, he finally agreed.

What we got was a set that was just under 8 minutes. I didn't actually get to watch them play but listening from the door, they sounded great! They just ran through all their songs and wrapped up as fast as they could.

The entire show had been recorded but due to an idiotic mistake, all the recordings were deleted. This one only survived because I had it sent to me immediately the next day. I can't count how many times I've listened to it. I will forever be thankful to Mario and the rest of the band for playing this show.
These are all the same songs from the "Me Das Asko" tape. Shittier quality with a little too much static and reverb. Some songs are slightly different and it's actually pretty cool to listen to this and then go onto listen to the finished product and see how much more refined it is.

It's been 10 years since this took place. This line up still blows my mind! The weekend was amazing and although it didn't end well, it was still incredible to see so many people from so many places. It actually felt like there was a real sense of community. There were a couple of pre-shows that were also really fun and another thing that really stood out to me was just how much good merch there was!

Here are a few notes of some things I remember from this weekend:

-I had just gotten my first job a few months before this show and almost got fired because I called off all 3 days.

-¡Libérate! and I released the 'Amor Y Pasion' 7" just in time for this weekend. We all chipped in for it and were able to get it done for pretty cheap. It's still one of my favorite records and I'm pretty proud to have been involved in it.

-Venganza opened up the show and it was nothing but homies in the front. Same for ¡Libérate! on the third day when they opened and we were all wearing our red ¡Libérate! shirts. Sick cheerleader section.

-October 23rd (the first night) was Hit Me Back's final show.

-Descarados didn't end up playing for some reason. They were also supposed to play a pre-show the day before the fest started but the power went out at the venue after Asko played. I finally got to see them play maybe like a year or two later.

-I'm not sure if Send The Dogs played because their singer Oscar had just been hit by a car like a week before the fest.

-Kontraattaque played a spontaneous 5 song reunion set on the second night after the disastrous Iconoclast reunion attempt.

-Austin (Blazing Eye) gave me a copy of the Asko tape which was the first Silenzio Statico release. Within a few months, the bands and people involved in the Silenzio Statico collective would make their mark and put the hood on the map.

-The venue got greedy and oversold the show on the third night. Crudos, Despise You and Crom were set to headline but the show got shut down right after Coaccion played. The cops were initially called in by neighbors because the "punks" were too cool to go inside and catch all the bands. All they wanted was to get wasted and see Crudos. Fuck you guys.

-Sergio from ¡Libérate! and a few other people tried to get everyone to sit down and show the fire marshals and cops that although the show was over capacity, that the crowd was under control. It obviously didn't work.

-There was a makeup show for the last 3 bands that weren't able to play. It happened in December but unfortunately the people that had traveled to the fest didn't get to enjoy it. I had to watch the show from the back because I tore my knee up bombing the hill at Universal Studios on my skateboard. Shitty timing on my part.
Lucha libre and Hardcore?! If you've been around, you know this demo already. This demo has already made the rounds but I was trying to download it again and couldn't find a link that worked. I got the tracks again from an old iPod and uploaded it in case anyone was looking for it. I saw them play once when they played the LA Latino Fest in 2008. Never got the chance again and that bugs me more than it should. They wore luchador masks on stage so I feel it would be wrong to identify the members here.
Yes, I reused the cover from their demo. I couldn't find any other images. Quick refresher on this very short lived band; this band originally consisted of Sal and Ray from Mugre and Heric and Lalo from Kontraattaque. This line-up recorded a demo and uploaded a few songs on myspace, but not too long after that the band faced some internal problems that I won't get into. The page was deleted, the songs were deleted and for the most part, lost. Fortunately, I downloaded 3 tracks from their page. Unfortunately, the songs were in a computer I no longer had access to. I finally found an old iPod that had the songs and ripped them onto my computer a few weeks ago. This is not the full demo but it's a pretty good sampling of their music. At times very reminiscent of Kontraattaque but with a pinch of old school hardcore. Gang shouts in certain chorus parts and whatnot. What I personally love are the Spanglish lyrics. It just really worked for me. Their self-titled track is a fucking banger and one of my favorite songs ever! I know I've asked the members if they still had the complete demo and none of them did so I think this is all there is. Anyway, I hope you check it out as I consider this a lost treasure in the vast ocean that is LA Hardcore.
<span style="color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I feel kinda shitty posting this because it was never officially released. I've been wanting to post this for a reeeaaally long time but didn't want to piss off Tom. Pero mejor pedir perdon que pedir permiso or however that saying goes.
<span style="color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Krossed features members of Bastardass, AxRxM and ACxDC playing straight up catchy punk rock. Songs sung in both english and spanish. I'm sure I could compare this to something but I am honestly at a loss. The band was very short lived and only played like 5 shows.
<span style="color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: white; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">These 7 songs were supposed to make up a 7" EP that I was supposed to release but the band broke up before it ever went to the pressing plant. I also recall being told that this was mixed and/or mastered by someone in Social Distortion so that's another interesting fun fact about this band.

I finally think I'm ready to start getting these out there. I've been sitting on the vinyl since early November. This was supposed to be out in late October when they played a show with Subhumans but the vinyl arrived 4 days too late. Once I missed the deadline the urgency kinda faded so I sat on it for a while just leaving the boxes of vinyl sitting around while I waited for all the covers to be screened.

¡Libérate! play fastcore and are highly influenced by bands such as Crudos, Life's Halt, E-150, HHH, Discarga, etc. It's all sung in spanish and its all short and to the point. Based out of LA, the band was highly active from 2006 til about 2010 or so. After that, only getting together to sporadically play shows when time permits. The band features members highly active in the LA hardcore scene that have played in bands such as Asshole Assassination Squad, Bastardass, Syntax, ACxDC, Medic! and Fieldtrip.

The LP contains 49 tracks, including their entire first show, so its technically like 55 tracks. This collects the "Amor Y Passion" 7", their split 7" with Intifada from Chicago, 10 unreleased studio tracks (some meant for a Venganza split that never happened), 2 demos and their first live set. You can download the discography on this blog (look for it, I'm not making it that easy!) for free if you want to check it out. If you like it, please help me get rid of the stacks of vinyl by buying one.

I only did a small run of 300 records, which will honestly be it, at least from me, because there are other releases I'd like to get out there. Hand screened covers and hand stamped labels (not fun!).

I am open to trades as long as they're fair and the music is somewhat similar to this. Please get in touch to work out a trade. I am open to tapes as long as you put some thought into them, all I ask is they have decent inserts (no bare tapes with bare packaging!) and decent dubbing. I'm getting sick of people half-assing tapes and still charging $5!

Other than that the lp is $12 ppd. Wholesale is welcome. Distro's get in touch or if you know your friends are going to want a copy as well, get together and order them all at once for a hook up.
Poliskitzo are (were?) a 3 piece from around the Hawthorne area. They'd been playing since about 2008 or 2009. Their debut tape was the fourth release on Silenzio Statico and honestly, I didn't dig it that much apart from "La Vida Duele". Not long after they released a second tape which is what got me really into them.

This contains their "Dulce Del Systema" EP and the Poliskitzofrenia tape.
If I'm going to be perfectly honest, we mostly went for Crudos and to show our support for the small group of LA bands playing the fest. Bands like Generacion Suicida, To The Point, Ausencia (who didn't show up on time to play) and of course Lakra!

Lakra recorded 11 songs for their very first tape to sell at the fest and man does it fucking rip! If you check out the Cola de Rata blog then you already know that they recorded a 4 song demo last year that was also pretty sick. If not, go download it! Either way check this shit out and if you want a copy of the tape hit up the band on their Facebook page and they'll hook you up!

I will also take this opportunity to share the Destruye Y Huye 7" that came out not too long ago. DYH seemed to disappear just as quickly as they rose up, they were pretty much playing every weekend and just kinda faded out. Sadly, I didn't even get a chance to see them play! I'm hoping they play again sometime soon.
I first caught this band in 2005 at the Long Beach Warehouse (RIP) when they played with Caustic Christ. Their 12 minute set blew me away and ended up being the best set of the night for me. A few days later I found their second demo at Headline Records and couldn't believe my luck! I immediately popped that shit in my cd player and played it all the way home, and this was only like a 6 minute demo so I heard it like 10 times! The demo came with a myspace (what's that?) link, I checked that out as soon as I got home and checked out all the other bands these guys either played in or with. Bands like the ACxDC, Max Ward, the Scrotums, K!ll K!ll the Nurse, Greedy Filth, Bastardass, No Noise, AxRxM and all those other DemonxChuff bands. This band opened up a huge door for me and exposed me to so much kick ass noise and the importance of true diy ethics. More importantly though, I made friends with a few of these people and they mean a lot to me.

I didn't even think I had this! I was going through some old cd-r's looking for the La Grita 7" I recorded but ended up finding this. Lakra used to be known as Assault but when vocalist Randy quit the rest of the band changed the name as well as the musical style and decided to have all the songs sung in spanish. They became a whole new band only keeping 1 or 2 Assault songs. They recently started playing a few more gigs after not doing anything for about a year. They've got newer recordings but I still haven't gotten them cos Tubby is lagging it! This reminds of the early @patia No recordings. The vocals are almost spoken and sorta shouted. We've been trying to talk Vicious Threat into getting back together to record for a split 7" with Lakra but no one ever seems to be free at the same time as everyone else. It will hopefully eventually happen though.
Don't know too much about this band either other than it's got one guy from La Grita. But this is fucking great! Is it power violence? Thrash? Grind? It's fucking got all of it! They were supposed to come down here with La Grita a while back but for one reason or another they didn't end up coming which was a major disappointment because I was really excited about seeing them. Does anyone have any other recordings from them?? Hook it up!
Fronterrorizmo was a band made up of members from both Texas and Cali. The band was made up of members from bands like Vicio, Aztlan Underground, Kontraattaque, Esperanza, Tragatelo and a butt load more. They appeared on a few compilations and also put out this one 7" that is somehow still available if you take the time to look for it. They stopped playing shows when the Texan half went back home but got back together to play Latino Fest '08. Their reunion didn't really get all that much attention cos everyone was only focusing on Los Crudos playing. I found that really annoying. Don't get me wrong, I love Los Crudos but fuck man the show was not about them! Latino Fest turned into the Crudos show and nothing else for a lot of people. It was very discouraging and irritating to see that Heric, Sal and the rest of the crew worked so damn hard to set up an amazing fest with dozens of amazing bands and have it all be over shadowed by one band. I was as stoked as anyone to see Los Crudos play but I was just as stoked to be able to see Bruise Violet, Outraged, Control De Estado, Maladie, Bosque, Venganza, Liberate!, Hit Me Back, Iconoclast(!), NxN, Mugre, Huasipungo, Sin Orden, Final Draft, La Grita, Adelit@s, plus more all in the same weekend! Oh well, you all missed out!
Cream Soda. Haha funny name. Like it says on the picture. Fast Core. They don't sound too fast to me but they still fucking own! Don't know all that much about them other than they broke up after vocalist Oscar moved away and Alvin from AxAxSx eventually ended up in this band. This has their first demo, a live set and what was supposed to be their 7". Andres from Bastardass was supposed to release it but both master copies of the cd (maybe with a better mix?) were lost somehow. One by Alvin and one by Sergio from ACxDC. Way to fucking rob the world from what would have been an awesome 7" guys! It all ended in the summer of '06 but should Oscar ever visit one more show is a must!
